A really great margarita requires a blender with more than one speed and a blade especially designed to crush ice. I found these qualities in an Oster Professional Series blender. To me, a great margarita is comparable to a slushy, little tiny beads of ice, thick in texture full of flavor. On the other hand, my husband considers a margarita great if the ice chuck are not so tiny, as he enjoys the flavor, more as a drink than as slush.
The Oster blender with its two speeds that prepares them both to perfection. Another factor to consider is the power of the motor. Continual use, can put a strain on an under powered motor, causing it to burn out. Our Oster motor has a 1/2 horsepower output. We can blend perfect margaritas all day long! If cost is a factor, our Oster was in the the $80 price range. There are many different, reliable brands, of blenders on the market less expensive. When comparing blenders, it is important to chose one with a blade made especially for crushing ice. The blades can be purchased separately, in some brands.
We even purchased a blade for our Oster that blends milkshakes. Blender manufacturers tout many different speeds. I think it is a gimmick, our Oster meets our every need for blending. It is the only bender we own and have for years. I hope this has helped make your decision easier. One other tip, a great margarita is made with quality ingredients.
